About

My husband, Douglas, and I owned a Hunter 33 since about 2015, and sailed in Cape Breton, primarily in the Bras d’Or Lake. We both worked busy jobs so only really got out on the weekends and some nights after work, along with a few longer trips each summer.

We dreamed of buying a larger boat to live aboard and travel where ever the wind took us after we retired. Then in 2021 we came to the conclussion that we should not wait to follow our dreams. So we decided to sell everything and start searching for a boat.

We spent a few months looking for boats, mostly in Florida, but also down the eastern sea board. Along the way we rented a Jenneau for a few weeks in St Petersbourg Florida to make sure we could get along with each other in close quarters. (We can!)

When we were in Florida we met some people who had a Hunter 420 center cockpit, and they invited us aboad for a tour. We immediatly knew that this was the boat for us! The lay out allows for two people to live aboard but have their own space, which is really important because Douglas will be working remotely and I will be serving on boards and writing while we travel.

So the search for a Hunter 420 began. We got in touch with a great broker, Lee Payne, who started searching for us. We looked at a few in Florida and one in Georgia, but didn’t see what we were looking for. Then one day a 420 for sale in Racine Wisconsin popped up on an internet search. We had no idea that Racine existed and it wasn’t what we planned, but after learning more about the boat and the possibility of taking it down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico we decided to pursue it. We came out to look at it in March 2022, and took possession on May 31st which is the day we moved aboard.

This blog will follow our journey as we get the boat ready for its new life and head out for new adventures!
